National Economic Workshop Kicks Off at Royal Hashemite Court

On Saturday, the National Economic Workshop titled “Advancing into the Future: Unleashing Potential to Modernize the Economy” kicked off at the Royal Court, with 17 experts representing vital sectors of the local economy.

The goal behind the five-week workshop is to assess the national economy’s current state, identify opportunities to develop economic sectors and increase their competitiveness, and draw a cross-governmental road map to maximize opportunities and boost economic growth.

Experts exchanged ideas and proposals based on a participatory approach on how to invest in each sector’s strengths, and transform challenges into opportunities in order to accelerate economic growth, increase competitiveness, and stimulate investment.

After many discussion during the successful first day, the next session will have participants develop a vision for different sectors and their growth priorities.

Held under directives of His Majesty King Abdullah II, the workshop aims to draw a strategic, time-bound, integrated and feasible road map for vital economic sectors, including sectors that have not previously been addressed by government strategies or plans, the outcomes of which are positively reflected on the citizens standard of living.

Sectors covered by the national economic workshop are agriculture, food security, energy, water, mining, communications and information technology, markets, financial services, health care, trade, industry, tourism, education, labor market, transportation, logistics, urban development, climate change, creative industries, financial policy, employment, investment and business environment.
